“There is not, in any single, particular instance of cause and effect, anything which can suggest the idea of power or necessary connexion.”
David Hume
I’m interested in the idea of necessary connections. When I made this sculpture about feeding tubes and insatiable desires using telephone wires I was thinking that although nutriments may be delivered they do not necessarily fulfil the desire. The college was getting a new telephone/ internet system and the workmen were leaving huge bunches of wires all over the place. I had no idea that they came in so many subtly beautiful colours.
I mentioned this to my husband and he said “Don’t be ridiculous, how do you think they can tell the different connections apart?”
He is a software engineer.
I had not made the necessary connection.
